A quick post to give you an update on the satchel project. Which really needs a new name. Any ideas?I’m now in contact with a counselor at Alps Road Elementary. She has resources who will sort books by age-appropriateness, and this is huge news. In spring, I had no idea if the books were for the right ages but there was nothing I could do in such a short time. This year, the right books will get into the right hands. I’m so happy. AND, this means I can collect books for all ages, and expand the project to other grades, not just 2nd and 3rd. Wow.The school itself has a lot of needs. I struggled a little bit with whether I should broaden my focus to include the school. It’s not out of the question, but for now, I’m sticking to my original focus of getting books, art supplies, and other learning tools into the homes of the kids.With that said, I’m stunned by what some friends are doing to help me. One is providing a seriously generous financial contribution, and another is working to get her whole neighborhood in on the program. So I’m not ruling out helping the school at some point! Just not yet.Oh – a quick shout out to my niece EJB, who has come through with a large quantity of books on her own. She’s 14, folks.
